New Building is Moving Right Along

Now that the new building across the street from the Harbor Club is under roof, alot of work is going on in the interior.  The first floor of the new building will house The Red Rickshaw, a home furnishing, accessories, gifts and design service store along with 35 North, a cafe with scratch kitchen, home-baked goods and fresh ground coffee.  The second floor will be a state-of-the-art wellness, fitness and spa services area with dressing areas and showers, equipment, machines and private rooms for massage, facials and other spa treatments.  We can’t wait!!  The third floor features four guest suites and a small conference area, providing a fantastic environment for private gatherings and corporate retreats.  Check out the view from the third floor (below).

River Dunes Residents featured in Ideal Living magazine

River Dunes residents, John and Lynn Robinson, are featured in an article in the “State of the States” section of the winter issue of Ideal Living magazine.  We absolutely love what they had to say about their retirement home in our community:

“John Robinson is a lover of seafood, a sailor, a thinker, and a world traveler.  When pondering retirement in the southeast, Oriental, NC, wasn’t even on his list.

But when he and his wife, Lynn, landed in River Dunes, a beautifully wooded, waterfront community on the Pamlico Sound eight and a half miles from Oriental, and 30 miles from New Bern, he realized they had found everything they’d been looking for – a quiet, gorgeous retreat just steps from the water, in a developing neighborhood, where they could still maintain a connection to the global yachting community.  And, pretty importantly, a place their kids and grandkids would want to come to visit.”

Thanks, John and Lynn!  We wish you all the best in your wonderful new home.

Ringing in the New Year at the Harbor Club

A full house of River Dunes owners, club members and friends gathered at the Harbor Club to welcome 2017 in great style.  Those in attendance enjoyed a scrumptious five course meal, including a chef-attended crepe station for dessert.  The dance floor stayed full with music provided by the talented Raleigh-based band Risse.  At midnight, the traditional ball drop (this year from the mast of Sheba Moon) and glass of champagne finished off one of our favorite parties of the year.  We’re looking forward to many more fabulous New Year’s Celebrations with friends and neighbors in the years to come!

Talented Glass Artist at River Dunes

One of River Dunes own, Lyne Lassen, is a very talented artist who creates beautiful glass objects in her studio, located in the carriage home they have just moved into on Homestead Road.  Lyne creates original designs that take shape on paper, and end up being fired in her kiln.  The process takes several days and three separate firings to make a final piece with great detail, vibrant colors, texture, and shape.  Her studio contains a reclaimed card catalogue that she stores glass pieces in, categorized by color, a light table, and a long row of storage bins for larger pieces of glass.  It’s an amazing place, and we are blown away by her artful creations!

Coffee and Community Conversation

Once a month, River Dunes home owners have the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee and some casual conversation with the development team about the community.  These informal gatherings are held at the Provision Company, and owners are welcome to drop for updates and discussion about topics pertaining to life in the community.  Some great ideas and suggestions have come from these sessions which are open to all property owners.

All is Well at River Dunes!

The old sages say that the weather is most beautiful after a storm, and we couldn’t agree more!  We are happy to report that Matthew passed us by with absolutely no damage to the marina or the community.  Capt. Rich and crew did a great job of storm preparation, and our well-protected marina was completely full.  Full power, phones and internet were quickly restored, and the minor yard debris clean up is almost complete.

The photos that you see above and below were taken around Grace Harbor yesterday.  All is well, the sky is blue, and we are open for business – we’re even holding an outdoor wedding on the docks this weekend!
