You never know where a group from River Dunes might turn up!This past weekend, a group of slip owners travelled up the river from Grace Harbor to New Bern for a rendezvous. All reports are that they had a great time, enjoyed some wonderful meals, and are looking forward to lots more good times on the water this summer.River Dunes is in a great location for many wonderful day trips by boat, including New Bern, Beaufort, Ocracoke, Shackelford Banks, and Morehead City.
The marina at River Dunes has been busy, busy the past few weeks. In addition to the annual stream of transients heading back home from the Bahamas and Florida, there have been several new additions to our growing group of slip holders. We were also happy to welcome one of our owners who made the trip on his new Shannon power cruiser up from Florida to its new home in Grace Harbor.
This past weekend, Harbor Manager Rich Beliveau arranged for Vessel Safety Inspections by the local US Coast Guard Auxiliary.Although the day was overcast and chilly, over 15 boats participated in the free service.
River Dunes Harbor Club and Marina welcomes our new Director of Marina Operations, Rich Beliveau.Rich and his wife Carol have moved to Oriental from Islamorada, FL, where he managed Florida Sea Base. They are getting settled into their new home, and Rich has jumped into the Marina Operations with lots of energy and enthusiasm.”I am committed to maintaining the high level of service already in place, and to growing the marina along with adding new services and programs,” Rich recently stated. Please stop by the Harbor Club and welcome Rich to River Dunes!
We love it when our owners send pictures as they enjoy their adventures far and wide!We have just received this shot, taken by the owner of Eileen H at Compass Cay in the Exumas. Thanks for the photo, enjoy your travels, and we’ll see you soon at River Dunes, John and Kathy!
Hurricane Sandy created a full marina for River Dunes, as many traveling boaters took shelter from the winds and rain in our protected harbor. With a full harbor, the staff has done a tremendous job of providing hospitality, food, beverages and other services for our guests.
The storm gave us a broad off-shore skirt, and we suffered no damage; however, we cannot say the same for some of our owners and friends. All of thosein the Northeast path of Sandy who have been affected and are without power or have lost homes, businesses, and so much more are in our thoughts. We wish you strength and patience as you go through the clean up and recovery process.
On Sunday, November 4th at 9:00 a.m., River Dunes Marina will be sponsoring a seminar featuring guest speakers Jeff and Karen Siegel of ActiveCaptain.com.Jeff and Karen, both experience first-responders, will be addressing how to handle medical emergencies while onboard a boat, including tips for preparing the boat, captain and crew.Immediately following the seminar, a live CPR demonstration will be held.
Buffet lunch will be available for $12 per person. The seminar is FREE for River Dunes owners, Harbor Club members and anyone who is docking for a minimum of 2 nights. For all others, the seminar will be $20 (includes lunch).
As always, we are happy to see the return of good friends from the boating community.Such was the case with the recent arrival of “Changer”.The owners are cruisers who call Florida home base, but who are always sure to make Grace Harbor a stopping point on their journey. We enjoy your visits, wish you safe travels, and hope to see you again soon!

Active Captain.com tracks over 30,000 marinas worldwide, providing information and reviews.Among marinas with over 20 reviews, River Dunes ranked third in the world; and among marinas with over 30 reviews, River Dunes ranks FIRST in the world!
As reported by Jeff and Karen Siegel of ActiveCaptain.com, “this is quite an accomplishment. It demonstrates extreme consistency of quality over a large number of boaters…There are only 12 marinas that have more reviews than River Dunes and none of them rate as highly.”We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Thanks to the many boaters who have visited and reviewed River Dunes! We hope you’ll come back soon, and we look forward to continuing to exceed your expectations in all areas of marina operations.
Meet Pepper, River Dunes Super-Secret Anti-Seagull Weapon.Pepper’s assignment is to keep the increasing seagull population on C Dock at bay until the dock is completed and boats are in the slips. She takes her job very seriously.Perks include golf cart rides and an occasional chew toy.Keep up the good work, Pepper!
Okay, we’re bragging. Boaters traveling the ICW or searching for a new marina to call home use online communities to share reviews, tips, and suggestions with fellow boaters.
We’re thrilled to report that River Dunes is a consistent five-star marina. Two recent reviews really stood out.
“Definitely deserving of the 5-star rating! My fellow cruisers are so right. This is an absolutely gorgeous place with the most hospitable of hosts. And the price is more than right as well.
We will return this fall, whether the weather is threatening or not. It’s much more convenient than stopping in Oriental.” – Captain Crabcake (8/9/11)
“TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! A Must Stop on the ICW.
Simply the best marina we’ve been at, perhaps even better than Emerald Bay in the Bahamas…” – Captain Pierre (8/4/11)
Other Five Star Reviews: Just a smattering of titles from 2011…
- “Only Missing Part is You” “An absolute 10″”Raises the Bar for Quality Marinas””It’s all about the steam shower””My first five-star rating”First class – five star”Unbelievable, a must see”
