Nothing beats fishing near or around the Neuse River!
Meet the black drum, also known as (Pogonias Cromis), held in the hands of a River Dunes visitor who caught him in our very own Grace Harbor.

This fish is a member of the croaker family and is related to the Atlantic croaker, red drum, and spotted seatrout. A key characteristic of this family of fish is the ability to produce croaking or drumming sounds with their air bladder; the story behind names croaker and drum. This ability is most developed in the black drum, pictured above, and anglers can sometimes hear sounds from schools passing near their boats.
The Neuse River boasts a rich wildlife: from fish to turtles to dolphins. Be sure to bring your camera, sense of adventure, and maybe even a fishing rod on your next visit to River Dunes.
