The second weekend in December is when Oriental celebrates Spirit of Christmas. In 2018 it’ll be on Friday and Saturday, December 13-14. Recent years have featured a lighted small boat parade in the harbor on Friday night and a parade on Saturday along with a live nativity. Downtown businesses have open houses and hot cider. From Friday, April 24 to Sunday, April 26, 2020, cyclists will converge in Oriental for the 17th annual CycleNC Coastal Ride.
“This ride features 3 full days of great routes perfect for any level of cycling experience. Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned veteran, the Coastal Ride routes are a perfect match. Each day will feature a variety of routes with varying mileages. It’s up to you whether you want to ride a little or ride a lot. All routes are loop rides that start and end in Oriental so there’s no moving camp each day. Over the three days, you’ll travel along back roads with little traffic, experience unique coastal fishing communities and stroll along the waterfront with views of the Neuse River. Let’s not forget about the small-town charm and hospitality that our host town of Oriental will be providing from the minute you roll into town.” (More on the CycleNC website…)
