Oriental Boat Show

The 2019 Oriental Boat Show — The Best Small Town Boat Show In America —is coming up April 12-14, 2019. This 3-day Friday-Saturday-Sunday show is organized by the Oriental Rotary Club and is the place to see boats and gear for boats.For 2019 the show moves to the heart of Oriental… it will be “downtown” on Hodges Street by the harbor. In water boats will be in the Oriental Marina slips and at the town dock.

A Listening Session with the Musical Society

The Pamlico Musical Society wants your input on performers it’s thinking of booking for the 2019-2020 season. Lend them your ears at a public Listening Session on Tuesday evening, November 27th at the Oriental Woman’s Clubhouse. It is happening after a brief annual business meeting, which starts at 5p.

The feedback from those attending helps determine which musical acts PaMuSo will bring to Oriental in the upcoming season. There’s no charge to attend the listening session – nor do you need to be a member of the Musical Society (though you are welcome to join.)

Ranky Tanky – Gullah Culture Performance

Pamlico Musical Society is sponsoring a free ‘informance’ Saturday, November 17, 2018 @ 2:30p at Holt’s Chapel Community Center at 136 Janeiro Rd. Come out and celebrate the Holt’s Chapel renovation project with Ranky Tanky.

The members of Ranky Tanky are from South Carolina. They perform songs that came out of Gullah culture, including spirituals, dance music and children’s rhymes. Come and enjoy the music and culture of the low country islands of South Carolina. This interactive program will highlight their society.

This free performance is held at Pamlico County’s historic Rosenwald School, one of 5,000 structures built in the 1920’s to bring education to black students in the South.

River Dunes is thrilled to welcome back BikeMS cyclists to the River Dunes Harbor Village for the Lunch Rest Stop during the 2018 Historic New Bern BikeMS event.

Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride 2018 is a ride that will take you farther than you’ve ever gone before. What makes this ride so special? There are multiple route options through New Bern, Oriental along beautiful coastal highways and byways, all of which are well supported by a fully-stocked rest stops every 10-15 miles, a great lunch stop each day and safety provided by medical personnel, HAM radio operators, law enforcement and motorcycle escorts. Once you’ve gotten your miles in, you can celebrate with your teammates, friends, and family in our vibrant and scenic water-front Team Village and Start/Finish Festival area!

In addition, you’ll experience an incredible level of camaraderie as you embark on a journey filled with laughter, excitement, support and a profound sense of accomplishment. Twin Rivers Quilter guild presents 2018 Bee by the River “Seasons for Quilts” Quilt Show. Friday, October 26, 2018, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday, October 27, 2018, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Guest lecture Friday by Lynn Gorges, Textile Conservator and Restoration Specialist and Saturday by Pepper Cory, a Quilt author, and teacher.

Children’s Theater Workshop

July 16 - 27, 2018

Registration is open for this summer’s Children’s Theater Workshop. 2018 will be the program’s 23rd season of teaching children – from 1st through 12th grade – acting fundamentals and how to tell stories on stage using words, movement, and emotions. Theater activities and games are also part of the mix in the two-week sessions led by a theater arts drama coach at The Old Theater in Oriental.

The 2018 Summer Workshop Schedule: For students who have just completed 1st/2nd grades: July 2-13, 9a-noon. Those who’ve finished 3rd/4th grades: July 16-27, 9a-noon. Students who just completed 5th-7th grades would attend July 2-13, 2-5pm while recent 8th-12th grade students would attend July 16-27, 2-5pm

The “Urban Gypsies” of Florida are back – performing at the Old Theater 7:30p June 23 in Oriental, NC.

The Urban Gypsies combine island, gypsy, folk, sailing and tribal genres to make a music of their own. It’s drums, guitar, mandolin and the Urban Gypsies voices.

The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree

In celebration of the 300th Anniversary of Blackbeard’s escapades – and ultimate demise – off the North Carolina coast, Oriental’s Old Theater presents its production of The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree, on Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9 at 7:30p and a matinee on Sunday June 10 at 3p. A special performance date for community club members will be on Thursday, June 7.

This musical comedy set on board a pirated ship in the late 1800’s, is suitable for all ages. Tickets for The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree are $18 general admission and $16 for military and Old Theater members. They are for sale at Nautical Wheelers (Oriental and New Bern) and online at A group rate is available for club members attending the June 7 performance (email for details).
